Terry Cone was a neighbor and a friend to so many in our community. His vision started in a small blue-collar town in Illinois. He loved a small local park in his community there, "That park was heaven. I would go there to meet all my friends!" When Terry had an opportunity to create a park for his community in 1976, he did not hesitate. Unfortunately, Terry passed away in 2018 and left Cone Park to his daughters, Tracy and Cassie. They realize how important the park was to their dad and want to make sure that his legacy is continued.
They have generously offered Cone Park to the community for a price well under the market value. But it is an opportunity that has a fairly short window. While we have a team pursuing creative ways to purchase the park, we want to raise pledges for the purchase of the park. We have 108 households in the Skyland's Neighborhood. We are looking to raise $800K or about $8K per household. This money will cover the price of the park and about three years of operating costs. We will ask that you donate your yard crew one time every two years for mowing and cleaning the park. Insurance, water, and electricity for the park will be funded through donations and fund raising events at the park that we schedule through this website. As we find ways to fund the park through the city and the county, we will either offer a kicker back to those who donated or you can opt to donate the money for continuous improvements that will be controlled by the elected Skyland's Board. We understand that some folks in Skylands may not donate and so we will be asking homes that are close to the park for a higher donation of $12K. Of course, those of you fortunate enough to donate more won't be turned away!
Supporting a community directly is unusual. It brings our households closer together and offers a true sense of community. We are fortunate to live in such a beautiful area and we know what it means to protect the lives we have worked hard for. Embrace the opportunity to get involved!
We couldn't accomplish our goals without the help of supporters like you. Thank you for your time and donations that makes this possible!
